For flights with special authorisations above 400ft/120 meters that are conducted under VLOS, flights permitted within residential, commercial, industrial and recreational areas, and/or flights operations covered by a PDRA (Pre Defined Risk Assessment)

Certificate holder may operate operations that involve an unmanned aircraft being flown beyond the visual line of sight (VLOS) of the remote pilot but make use of visual observers for the purpose of avoiding collisions

Module 2 can be paired with RCoC-B which enables the certificate holder to operate operations for agricultural UAS works which include dispensation operations and fulfils requirements of CAD 6011 (II).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1.I do not have prior experience flying drones, can I attend the course?

Yes. Minimum age to attend Airasia CAAM Certified Drone Training (RCoC-B) course is 18 years old.

2. Do I need to own a drone before attending the course?

You do not need to own a UAS/drone unit before attending the course. Airasia Drone will provide the necessary equipment (including drones) for drone/remote pilot training purposes.

3. What type of drones will I be using during the training?

Our CAAM approved training drones are currently multirotor/quadcopter. The exact brand / model are that are commonly used and commercially available namely:


As we progress, AirAsia Drone will introduce and utilize the best (different) suited drone types for the specific requirements needed for the different training scenarios, outcomes, drone operator licensing requirements.

4. Does attending this drone course automatically earn me a drone license by to fly drone everywhere in Malaysia?

Successfully completing the RCoC-Basic or RCoC (EVLOS) Module 1 earns you a Remote Pilot Certificate of Competency in the course category that you have completed.


You will need to apply for a Standard Authorization to Flt (AFT) approval from CAAM together with the RCoC-B to be able to proceed with your drone operations.

5. Is the certificate obtained recognized internationally or just by the Malaysia Government?

The certificate is currently recognized and endorsed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia only.

7. How do I fly drones in Malaysia legally?

You will require to have CAAM authorization to fly (ATF) or the relevant approvals depending on the type of UAS operations. As a drone pilot, you will require to have a A2-RCOC or RCOC-B issued by CAAM.

Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM)

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, previously known as the Department of Civil Aviation, is a government agency that was formed under the Ministry of Transport Malaysia in 1969. Effectively on 19 February 2018, DCA was incorporated into a statutory body known as CAAM.Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) would like to emphasise that all Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) or more familiarly known as Drone flight activities are currently bound to Civil Aviation Regulation 2016 (MCAR) Regulation 140-144.As of March 1 2021, all academies and organisations currently offering training to drone pilots or operators would have to be accredited to comply with its directive called CAD 6011 Part 1.Remote Pilot Training Organisation is an organisation that has been formally approved by the CAAM to submit reports and/or issue certificates on the CAAM’s behalf in relation to the competency of remote pilots.
